Swarn Nritya Pratibha
13-17 March 2004, 7.00 pm daily
CC Mehta Auditorium, M.S. University, Vadodara
The
Sangeet Natak Akademi is glad to present Swarn Nritya
Pratibha, a national-level festival of young dancers
in Vadodara, in collaboration with the Sports, Youth
and Cultural Activities, Department of the Government
of Gujarat and the Gujarat Sangeet Natak Academy.
Swarn Nritya Pratibha is part of a series of events
being held in the country since last year in celebration
of Akademi’s Golden Jubilee (1953 – 2003), which was
inaugurated by the Hon’ble President of India on 28
January 2003. Several major events have been held
in Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and other places; and
to promote artists of the new generation festivals
are being held in Chadigarh, Vadodara, Kolkata, Thiruvananthapuram,
Allahabad and Jaipur.
Sangeet
Natak Akademi, with a rich heritage spanning 51 years,
has played a key-role in creating and reinforcing
awareness of various aspects of the performing arts,
stimulating fresh thinking among practitioners through
several major expositions held across the country.
The
dance festival in Vadodara is designed to bring forth
some of the best talents from the younger generation
who will have the responsibility of carrying forward
the tradition of India’s different dance styles as
taught to them by distinguished masters. The event
is particularly focused on dancers of the western
region of the country. With a view to bringing in
greater variety and representation of different styles
as also to impart a national character to the event,
a few dancers from other regions have also been included.
Apart from major traditions of dance, namely Bharatanatyam,
Kathak, Manipuri, Odissi, Kuchipudi, Sattriya and
Chhau dances, a performance of contemporary dance
will also be featured. The emphasis is mainly on promising
soloists. It is hoped that this festival will give
the young dancers of the western region an opportunity
to grow further and take their works of art beyond
their region.
The
presence of the Akademi’s Chairman, Smt. Sonal Mansingh,
eminent dancer, teacher and scholar – who will inaugurate
the festival on 13 March – will be an inspiration
for the young participants.
The
Akademi gratefully acknowledges the collaboration
of the sports, Youth and Cultural Activities Department,
Government of Gujarat and the Gujarat State Sangeet
Natak Academy and active support of the cultural organization,
“Ghargharika” of Vadodara.
We
do hope that the dance practitioners and enthusiasts
of Vadodara would not only welcome the event but also
participate actively and avail the opportunity to
contribute towards further development of the art
in their region.
