Indo-Foreign Cultural Exchange Programme - TAMBUCO: Maxican Percussion Ensemble at Delhi and Mumbai

Under the Cultural Exchange Programme between the Government of India and Government of Mexico, a performance by the Tambuco Percussion Ensemble of Mexico consisting of six percussionists — Jose Ricardo Gallardo Ortega (artist director), Alfred Bringas Sanchez, Miguel Zaragoza Gonzalez, Raul Toledo, Andres Arturo Gomez Jaimes (assisting the group) — was held at Siri Fort Auditorium on 5 September 2006 followed by an interaction with Indian percussionists on 6 September at Sahitya Akademi
Auditorium. Govind Prasad Chakraborty, Ambika Prasad Misra, Shakeel Ahmed, Subhash Kumar, Harishchandra Pati, Gagan Singh, and S. Srinivasan represented the Indian side during the interaction. The event in Delhi was organized by Sangeet Natak
Akademi, the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, and the Embassy of Mexico in India. The Ensemble was also presented at the National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA), Mumbai, on 8 September; an interaction followed the performance in the next
day on 9 September. The presentation in Mumbai was organized in association with NCPA. International Kathak Festival and Symposium: Kathak at the Crossroads

Upon recommendation of the Consul General of India in San Francisco, USA, Sangeet Natak Akademi approved collaboration of Kathak Kendra with the Chitresh Das Dance Company/Chhandam School of Kathak Dance in the International Festival and
symposium titled ‘Kathak at the Crossroads' held from 28 to 30 September 2006 at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Franciso. Kathak Kendra's Gurus, namely Geetanjali Lal, Rajendra Kumar Gangani, Krishan Mohan Mishra, and musicians Yogesh Gangani, Tabla player, Indu Prakash, Vocalist, and Ghanshyam Sisodia, Sarangi-player, were deputed to participate
in the festival for which expenses were met by Sangeet Natak Akademi as collaborative support to the organizers. On behalf of the Akademi. Shri Jayant Kastuar, Secretary, also attended the festival and symposium as an expert in the field of Kathak dance.
