Under its scheme of Assistance to Young Theatre Directors, Sangeet Natak Akademi has organized festivals in various States in the past to promote the talent of young directors. Rang Pratibha, organized by Sangeet Natak Akademi in collaboration with
Jawahar Kala Kendra, Jaipur, from 22 February to 2 March 2007 was the tenth in the series of programmes under the scheme. Earlier, similar festivals had been presented in five North-eastern States and in Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Gujarat and Jharkhand.

The festival was inaugurated by Shri Omkar Singh Lakhawat, Chairman, Rajasthan Heritage Protection and Promotion Authority. He was joined by Smt. Nivedita Mehru, Additional Director General, Jawahar Kala Kendra, and Smt. Kiron Bhatnagar, Deputy
Secretary, Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi.

During the nine-day festival, three plays by young theatre directors of Jaipur, two each from Udaipur, Bikaner, and Jodhpur and one from Ajmer were included. Shri Gopal Acharya from Bhilwara, Shri Arjun Deo Charan from Jodhpur, Shri Laique Hussain from
Udaipur, Shri Sartaj Mathur, Shri Ranbir Singh, Shri Vasudev Singh and Shri Ashok Rahi were invited as experts from Rajasthan. Those invited from other States to add regional inputs to the deliberations included eminent theatre directors and Sangeet Natak
Akademi awardee Shri Rajendra Nath from Delhi and Smt. Uttara Baokar, the actress from Pune.

After each play was staged in the evening, interaction sessions were held the following morning among directors, actors, experts and other participants. This provided an opportunity to young directors and actors to share their experiences and
