Swarn Sangeet Pratibha

A Festival of Music

3-7 April 2004

Jawahar Kala Kendra Auditorium

Jawaharlal Nehru Marg, Jaipur

The Sangeet Natak Akademi is glad to present Swarn Sangeet Pratibha, a national level festival of young musicians in Jaipur, in collaboration with the Jawahar Kala Kendra, Jaipur. The festival is part of a series of events flagged off during the Akademi's Golden Jubilee Year 2003. The Akademi completed 50 years of its distinguished service to the nation as the National Academy of Music, Dance and Drama on 28 January 2003 and since then several important events have been held in different parts of the country to celebrate the Swarn Jayanti.

The music festival in Jaipur, second in this series after Allahabad held in March 2004, is designed to bring forth some of the best talents from the younger generation who will have the responsibility of carrying forward the tradition of India's different music style as taught to them by distinguished masters. The event is particularly focused on musicians of the western region of the country. With a view to bringing in greater variety and representation of different music style as also to impart a national character to the event, a few musicians from other regions and genres have also been included.

A notatble feature of the event is the presentation of less popular instruments like the Sundari (from Maharashtra), solo recitals of Pakhawaj and Sarangi and the Vichitra Veena by talented young instrumentalists. Also, a recital of young flautist of Carnatic music has been specially included to create a better awareness of the music from the south.

On the occasion of Swarn Sangeet Pratibha, a short film compiled from Akademi archives showing glimpses of great masters of the past and Akademi's contribution will be screed on the inaugural day. On the morning of Sunday, 4th April 2004, three films "Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan", "Ustad Allauddin Khan" and "Semmangudi", compiled from the Akademi's archives will be screened at the same venued.

The Sangeet Natak Akademi is thankful to the Jawahar Kala Kendra, Jaipur for their support and hopes that the Swarn Sangeet Pratibha will recieve enthusiastic response from the rasikas of the city of Jaipur.
